The Walker Institute is delighted to be part of a new project, NIMFRU (National – Scale Impact – Based Forecasting Flood Risk in Uganda), funded by SHEAR (Science for Humanitarian Emergencies & Resilience). Following the completion of SHEAR’s FATHUM project, a need for incorporating multiple and various types of information to allow informed decision making to effectively deal with flooding was identified. The NIMFRU project responds to this need, through a new approach that will provide comprehensive flood impact assessments for forecast based financing across all areas of Uganda.
NIMFRU aims at strengthening both local and national level data interpretation to improve decision making at multiple levels. To do this, the project will be developing a new approach of data synthesis, building on the IDAPS platform which holds multiple data sources including climate and geographical data and associated livelihood data. The Walker Institute will be leading on operationalising the livelihood impact-based flood forecasting together with Evidence for Development.
Within this project, we are collaborating with multiple organisations including:
In addition, we will also be working with multiple local partners in Uganda.
